Every winter the same calls come in on the same morning — the one after the first real snowfall. By then routes have been set for weeks, and the honest answer is usually that we cannot get to a new property before the contracted ones. Snow service is planned in October for a reason.
Routes are finite
A plow can only cover so many properties before the snow stops being fresh and starts being packed ice. Contractors size their routes to what they can genuinely clear in one storm cycle, which means the list closes well before winter starts.
Contracted customers are serviced in route order on every storm. That is the entire value of a seasonal agreement — not a discount, but certainty that someone is coming without you having to call and ask.
What happens before the first flake
The pre-season visit is what protects the property once everything is white and nothing is visible. We walk the site and mark it out so the crew is not guessing at two in the morning.
- Driveway edges staked so the plow stays off the lawn
- Irrigation heads, pavers and low walls located and marked
- Snow stacking areas agreed so piles do not block sightlines or drainage
- Trigger depth set — the accumulation at which we dispatch automatically
- Access notes recorded for gates, codes and turning space
Beyond the driveway
Plowing the drive is only part of a usable property. Walkways, steps and entries need hand clearing, because a machine on a walkway damages the surface and misses the edges that actually matter underfoot.
Treatment is the other half. Ice forms on cleared surfaces as melt refreezes overnight, and steps and shaded entries are usually the worst of it. Salting after clearing is what makes a property genuinely safe rather than simply clear.
Booking for the season ahead
If your property needs winter service, the time to arrange it is early fall. We size routes around the properties already contracted and stake each one before the first storm arrives.
Get in touch for a free winter estimate and we will walk the property, agree a trigger depth, and add you to the route before the list closes.
